Topic: Matt or Gloss??

Almost at the mot stage for the buggy, but i still have the sides left to paint,
no pods just the fibreglass that goes down to the chassis,
now i'm geared towards black gloss because its shiny and we all (most) like shiny!
but i'm also thinking black matt so the shiny gelcoat would look good against it,
what do you think would be the better looking of the 2?
i have some cans of black por 15 left and its more of a satin finish rather than gloss or matt.. help!
the photo is the only one i have of the sides, this was taken when the shell turned up

Re: Matt or Gloss??

Great buggy, it will be such a hoot once this grim weather goes.

I think matt black looks best,  as it hides the the non gel coated glass fibre.
This may be a bit ''blue peter'', if you get a roll of black crepe paper from an art shop, blu tac it to the side. then take a photo.
Then get some gloss black wrapping ( or Fablon ) and do the same.

Alternatively. Paint matt black, if you don't like it, paint with gloss!  Shimples ;lol;

Re: Matt or Gloss??

unfortunatly they dont make them pod things for the long wheel base, well they will if i make a set first and they can make a mould of them! roll the old buggy had em but they were home made, only seen one other lwb with pods, sad
so paintings the way to go until i get some fibreglassing skills..... sad
Jon, you can work magic in photochopshop cant you? smile

Re: Matt or Gloss??

Almost finished? - well, getting closer. Got a few odds and ends to sort out then try to fire it up. Engine hasn't been run for nearly three years. Also need to find a 'sympathetic' MOT tester!

Re: Matt or Gloss??

pdq mots up by sainsburys in pinhoe, he's got a buggy tucked away somewhere which he uses for hill climbs if my memory serves me correctly, if you can get yours done in about 6 weeks we'll book em both in at the same time! smile

Re: Matt or Gloss??

not alot! big_smile
fit rear bumper and paint it (though might not bother fitting it at all)
rob at woodbury is sorting out my brakes front and rear, timing and tuning the engine, sorting the gearbox and rear axle oil leaks, thats going in on march the 9th
paint the sides,
put some screws in the wings to hold the bonnet and wingbeading in place,
get some thinner tyres for the front
and align the headlights!
after the mot i'll make up some rear seats,
you?

Re: Matt or Gloss??

Fit wipers, exhausts, set timing and carburation, have a go at setting the tracking, fit number plates and light, fiddle with the suspension to cure the the slight lean to the nearside plus probably a hundred other niggly things. My biggest worry is the engine. It's a 1600tp bought second hand. I had it running for 5 minutes when I bought it and it seemed OK. I've since done a top end rebuild as a precaution which didn't reveal any horrors but you never know!. The gearbox was also a used buy which I haven't been able to test yet. Fingers crossed!

Re: Matt or Gloss??

fingers are crossed! my main problem is motivation! might be more tempted to finish it if it was somewhat warmer! what exhaust will you be using?

Re: Matt or Gloss??

Are you sure thats a pic of your exhaust?  It looks like an M.C. Escher drawing to me.

Seriously, that is going to turn heads everywhere you go this summer both for the looks and for the sound.  It is so cool it will stop global warming everywhere it goes smile

Re: Matt or Gloss??

Done in por15 semi gloss, all i had! and i am very pleased with the result!
and for bea i am currently uploading a video of the exhaust onto the internet, the titanium silencer isn't fitted yet, i'm still waiting for the adapter part, and i realised i need to move the reverse and fog lights because you cant see the fog light behind the exhaust! great, another job!
